Project
Hi my name is Kyle Koval, I am a freshman and my major is Atmospheric Science. For my Be Smart challenge I going to implement changes throughout my house that can help save money and energy.
First I want to do some research to find some energy saving things I can implement in my house. I would also like to change all the light bulbs to energy saving ones.
Second thing I am going to do is make sure all lights are kept off unless needed. We tend to keep lights on in rooms no one is even in. Hopefully this can lead to a good amount of savings.
I also want to change our drinking water habits. At my house we use bottled water so I want to get a filtration pitcher for tap water and see how much we can save by doing that.
by not buying bottles water.
So when the next billing cycle for the electric bill comes I am going to start these changes, and when the next months bill comes, see how much these changes have affected the bill. Our current bill is almost $80 a month. I hope to drop it to under $65. I am also going to see how much we would save a year by not buying bottled water

Update
I am just giving an update on how things are going. It has been a couple weeks since I started turning basically all the lights off in my house and it has been going good. I think the electric bill will be a lot different when it comes next month. I was able to find things online to help energy inside my house which as been useful. Also I am going to hold a meeting in the coming weeks with the neighbors on the block I live on. I want to try and organize a night without lights for my block. So hopefully I can get that to happen.
Update
Just wanted to give an update. On November 4th the block I lived on had its one night blackout. Was able to get about three-fourths of the houses to participate. It seemed to be very successful and we might to do it again in the coming months.
I am looking forward to
I am looking forward to seeing how it goes. Do you know how much you have been spending on bottled water until now? Keep posting, let us know if you find a good way to help people remember to turn off the lights!

Wow! How did you coordinate
Wow! How did you coordinate it? It would be great to know how you got the word out, communicated the idea and enlisted households to participate. Did your neighbors give you any feedback about the blackout?
